Welcome to the TransAM features page.

TransAM helps you to translate texts. Currently it can help to translate English, German or Hungarian texts into German, Hungarian or English.. It supports all combinations of those three languages. It also provides a simple but effective and enhanceable dictionary. TransAM runs under Win95 or higher or WindowsNt 4.0 or higher. It needs 4MB memory to run and takes approximately 600kB and 2.5MB for each vocabulary on your hard disk.

TransAm uses the Windows (ISO) Latin 1 characterset (important for Hungarian texts).

TransAM can handle only text files (*.txt). If you have a document in another format (e.g *.doc), please convert it first using your word processor into a *.txt file. Define windows character set (no DOS).

TransAM will not produce a final translation. Programs saying they can do that, lie. For instance, the word race means biological race and championship (among other things). If a so called 'translation program' decides for one of the meanings and this meaning is not the right one (does not fit into your text context), you must use an other dictionary to find the right meaning for your context, that can be rather time-consuming. TransAM, on the other hand, gives you all potential meanings of the word race and you can decide, which of those is the right one without using the dictionary. TransAM works sentence oriented, e.g. it shows each sentence and the translation help that belongs to that sentence at a glance. This helps to find out the meaning of a sentence rather than to be stick to single words. These two features will save for you (and saved me already) a tremendous amount of time.

You can also easily add new words to TransAM's vocabulary or delete words from it. TransAM also supports a trivial words list, that contains words like 'the', 'a' and the like, that you don't want to get translated. You can add or delete words easily from this list. You can immediatly see the results or statistics.
